VLC - INTERVENTIE ARTISTICA // SEMNAL URBAN

Instalatia Un-hidden Bucharest – semnal urban III pune in lumina interventia lui Pisica Patrata din 2016 si cladirea-monument, cu ajutorul unei interventii efemere creata de VJ VLC, dezvaluind istoria si viitorul Cinema Marconi.

VJ VLC

Despre Cinema Marconi

VJ VLC - ARTISTIC INTERVENTION // URBAN SIGNAL

Un-hidden Bucharest - Urban Signal III illuminates the 2016 intervention of Pisica Patrata and the monument building with the help of an ephemeral intervention created by VJ VLC, revealing the history and the future of Cinema Marconi.

VJ VLC

VJ VLC is a VJ, budding filmmaker and eagle eye, seemingly omnipresent, snapping experimental as well as traditional shots of Bucharest, its charming people and flamboyant cars. In 2016, VJ VLC animated the façade of Teatrul de vara CAPITOL, yet another abandoned monument where a Pisica Patrata glances at the passersby.

About Cinema Marconi

Authorized in 1926 by architect Constantin Cananau and inaugurated in 1930, the Marconi Cinema knows his period of glory until nationalization in 1948. In parallel with the film projections, theatre and vodevil performances were mounted on the small stage.

In line with the changes imposed by the new political regime, the name is changed from Marconi to Alexandr Popov, and in the 1960s, in accordance with the new lines of national communism, the name will be changed again in Dacia Cinema. During the turbulent period of the 1990s, the building is out of use, remaining unused and degrading significantly. Unfortunately, for financial reasons, even after its restitution to the rightful owners in 2006, the building fails to regain its glory once again.

The building is classified as a B class historic monument.

Starting in the middle of 2015, through a collaboration between owners and the Asociatia Industrii Cultural Creative, it is trying to return the building into the public circuit, creating a performance space to save the building, but also to draw attention to an area currently in dissolution despite the fact that it is in a protected historical area in the center of Bucharest.

In 2016, Asociatia Industrii Cultural Creative invites Pisica Patrata, illustrator, street artist and cartoonist to create a series of signal-panels that animate the degraded façade of Cinema Marconi, communicating with onlookers.

The Un-hidden Bucharest alternative tour, which will soon be available in print and as a web map, features 22 fresh public art interventions in Bucharest.

Un-hidden Bucharest is an urban regeneration project imagined as a series of 3 public signals aimed at humanising the city and promoting its exploration through art in an alternative cultural route that recommends the most remarkable artistic interventions in the public space. The three urban signals are produced in collaboration with the project partners – CNDB, Cinema Marconi, Lente, activating, through art, the public spaces they share with locals and tourists.

Un-hidden Bucharest is a cultural project produced by Save or Cancel via feeder.ro, co-financed by AFCN.
